An amazing book about sand. Sand is a very important part of modern life. This book covers the uses of sand and the history geology and geography of sand. The chapters cover cement and concrete the biggest use of sand in the world. Desert sand doesn't make good cement it is too round. Sand is used for glass, windows, telescopes microscopes and this requires pure silica sand found among other places Spruce Pine NC. It is used for space mirrors, silicon chips man made islands and tourist beaches. It is smuggled stolen and mined around the world and supplies are running out. A great book.
